Well this is the first post, obviously. This is going to be a good release of frustration. Unfortunately, the first post is going to start with a rant about the idiocy that has taken over society.
It's a normal Thursday afternoon and I'm sitting in a class being taught by a professor of gerontology (who somehow got his Ph.D.). This is one class I tend to sit in and mind my own business. I do my best to sit quietly and NOT take every opportunity to ask a question which is in opposition to what my teacher is "teaching". Now I put teaching in quotes because this particular instructor uses his classrooms as a forum for his personal stories and insulting of EVERYONE in health care who do not specifically deal with the older population of society. While I admire his cause and passion to take care of the elder population, I find it a bit annoying/disrespectful/agitating/stressful, and any other words you want to throw on there, to constantly tell your students that any other field of health care other than geriatrics and gerontology are essentially useless.
So, Thursday afternoon this bleep-bleep gets up and begins his usual rant which I immediately begin to ignore...until he begins to blame doctors, nurses, PAs, and so on, about the current state of health care. Apparently it is THEIR fault that people don't have insurance and that these professional's salary's are too big and this is causing the cost of health insurance to sky rocket making it unfordable to the common person to be able to afford it.
And me being, well ME, exploded. I raised my hand, waited to be called on, and asked the simple question, "Why is it a physician's responsibility to provide health insurance to a patient?" And the response was "Because a physician takes an oath to help everyone who needs it." To which my response was "And while doctors to try their best to help as many people as they possibly can, it is a ridiculous, asinine claim that a doctor should be expected to reasonably treat EVERYBODY." To which the entire class, with the exception of one (1), erupted against me. Making mind-numbing claims like "Your out of touch with society" and "Why should doctors get paid so much when so many other people are jobless, no insurance, and losing everything?"
At this point blood came from my ears and left my class...
Till next time...
